The History of Marinoto Home & Hospital Care

Marinoto has been a part of Inglewood’s history for over 70 years. It was originally built in 1943 and ran as a maternity home until 1967 where it was unfortunately closed.

After 4 years of sitting empty, the facility underwent a significant transformation and transitioned into a rest home in 1971. Founded by the Inglewood Welfare Society Inc. (IWS), Marinoto rapidly grew into a trusted provider of compassionate care, nurturing the health and wellbeing of the Inglewood community for decades.

Foundations of Care (1971-1985)

Marinoto was built on a strong community foundation. The early years focused on establishing a safe and nurturing environment for residents. Key milestones included the purchase of the property in 1977 and increasing resident capacity to 23 by 1985, laying the groundwork for future growth.

Growth and Development (1986-1995)

The late 1980s and early 1990s saw significant facility upgrades and a $100 rate increase in 1986 to meet rising costs. Marinoto’s resilience was tested in 1989 with staffing shortages, but community support rallied to ensure standards were upheld. Contributions from the Rotary Club and other local groups were instrumental in maintaining high-quality care. The 1990s were marked by extensive refurbishments, enhancing both the facility and the overall care experience.

A New Era of Expansion and Innovation (1995-2021)

Entering the mid-1990s, Marinoto began expanding and modernizing to meet the growing needs of the community. In 1999, a $100,000 renovation of the kitchen and laundry facilities marked the beginning of a series of upgrades. This was followed by the $67,000 Porte Cochère project in 2006, enhancing the building’s curb appeal and accessibility.

Looking Forward (2020 onwards)

The opening of the $2.2 million Hospital Wing was a significant milestone and elevated Marinoto’s capacity to provide state-of-the-art care. These projects not only expanded the physical capacity of Marinoto but also integrated modern design principles aimed at improving resident comfort, safety, and fostering a greater sense of social connection.

By 2021, Marinoto had expanded to 40 staff, including 9 registered nurses.  Meals on Wheels continued to be provided for the broader community. This diversification of services positioned Marinoto not just as a care facility, but as an essential community health partner.

Today, Marinoto stands as a symbol of excellence in aged care, with over 50 years of proven service, continual innovation, and deep community engagement.
