Preparing For Admission
A move into residential care is a big transition, and having the right information makes the process much easier. Below is a simple, step‑by‑step overview of what to expect - from your NASC assessment through to settling in at Marinoto Home & Hospital Care.
First Step
NASC Assessment
The first step in accessing rest‑home or hospital‑level care in New Zealand is a NASC (Needs Assessment and Service Coordination) assessment and this can be organised via your GP:
A NASC assessor will meet with you and your family to understand your health needs, daily living requirements, the level of support needed, and any funding support available.
They will confirm whether residential care is appropriate and provide formal approval for entry into a facility.
Once approved, you can begin exploring care options and preparing for admission.

Second Step
Getting the Paperwork Sorted
After NASC approval, there are a few important documents to complete. These may include:
Admission Agreement
Enduring Power of Attorney (EPOA)
Medical information
Subsidy forms (if applicable)
Tip: Having a trusted family member or support person alongside you can be really helpful.
Third Step
When a Room Becomes Available
Once a suitable room is ready, we’ll be in touch. Together we will confirm:
-
Are you or your family member ready to move
-
Talk through room options, pricing (provided upon application) and care needs
-
Arrange a visit (if possible)
-
Then agree on a move-in date.

Final Step
Moving In & Settling
Your first days at Marinoto are focused on comfort, orientation, and getting to know our team.
-
We’ll help you move in, set up your room, and introduce you to staff and residents.
-
A personalised care plan will be created with you and your whānau to ensure your routines, preferences, and wellbeing needs are understood.
-
Our goal is to make your settling‑in period as smooth and reassuring as possible.
